Young Bend - Four Seasons
The community of Young Bend had a school and church in the same building. Two churches met at the "municipal" building - the Primitive Baptist (1867) and The Baptist (1880). The Primitive Baptist left in 1970 to relocate in Shiney Rock as Mt. View Primitive Baptist. Young Bend got it's name from two brothers by the last name of Young, John and James of North Carolina, both of whom married sisters - the daughters of Aaron Cantrell, Janie and Rachel. James Young ran a distillery. There was a school located at Young Bend until the 1950's, when it was combined with Bright Hill School to form New View School.
When the School was moved to New View, Mr. Floice Vickers became principal and basketball coach. He helped to develop several excellent players, and the community took pride in winning the county-wide elementary school basketball tournament. Some of the players went on to high school, where they led their teams to the Tennessee state tournaments in the 1950's.
