DeKalb County Emergency Medical Service (EMS) is the primary agency responsible for the pre-hospital care and transportation of persons who become acutely ill or injured and are in need of ambulance transport to a hospital using Advanced Life Support ambulances. Additionally, DeKalb County EMS provides scheduled ambulance transportation services for persons who require routine transfer by ambulance based on a medical necessity. services.

DeKalb County E-911 uses the latest technology such as enhanced 911 services, GIS mapping, Computer Aided Dispatch, and Phase 2 wireless technology to answer and dispatch emergency and non-emergency calls in DeKalb County.
DeKalb County 911 was established in 1994 and was under the administration of the Sheriff of DeKalb County until 2005 when the local emergency communications board voted to consolidate dispatch services. The 911 district now employs eight full-time dispatchers, five part-time dispatchers, and a full-time 911 Director to manage the operations of the communications center. DeKalb County E-911 has interlocal agreements with DeKalb County, The City of Smithville, and The City of Alexandria for non-emergency dispatch services. |
