The Midway Community - Reynolds College
The Midway School was created around 1950 by combining Reynold's College School with West Point School, both of which had existed since before 1904. Located on the Old Sparta Highway, Midway functioned as a three-teacher school for twenty years or more. Eventually, it was combined with the Smithiville schools, and the Miday building is now used as a community center.
Bob Banks had a store near the Reynold's College school in the 1920's, and after the highway was changed about 1953, Si Dunn had a store on the highway for several years.
The Pomeroy Chapel Church was established in 1934 at the junction of the old and new roads to Sligo bridge; it is now affiliated with the Brethren in Christ Church. The West Point Freewill Baptist Church was organized in 1894, and became the New West Point Freewill Baptist Church when it moved to its present location on the Old Sparta Highway. Brother Royce Moore has been pastor of the church for several years.
