The New Bildad Community - Seven Springs
Early settlers of the New Bildad Community, often grouped together with the Seven Springs community, included Abraham Cantrell, Watson Cantrell, Tilman Potter and Perry Green Magness.
The name, Bildad, comes from the Bible. Bildad was one of Job's comforters.
The New Bildad Primitive Baptist Church was established in 1809, and divided from Old Bildad in 1854. For many years they would hold communion and foot-washing services, which attracted large crowds, many of which were not connected with the church at all. Often, they came for dinner on the grounds and to see and be seen.
From the 1890’s until the 1930’s, Fourth of July celerations were held at the Seven Springs Hotel, which also attracted enormous crowds. The Confederate Veterans reunion was also held there.
The Joy Post Office was located at Seven Springs from 1894 until 1904. A school was also located near the New Bildad Church.
New Bildad Church celebrated its 200th anniversary recently (1809-2009).
